Rebenack Inducted Into Hillsborough Rotary Club

June 23rd, 2010

On June 23, 2010, the Hillsborough Rotary Club inducted Ed Rebenack as the newest member of its chapter.

On February 23, 1905 Paul Harris, a young Chicago lawyer, met with three friends to discuss an idea he had been developing. The idea was that businessmen should get together periodically in the spirit of camaraderie to enjoy each others company and enlarge their circle of business and professional acquaintances.

Out of that discussion came the idea of a club whose membership would be limited to one representative from each business and profession. Weekly meetings were to be held at each member’s place of business in turn. The rotation of meetings was designed to acquaint members with one another’s vocation and to promote business.

Word of the new organization spread rapidly. Soon, membership increased to the point at which it was no longer practical to meet at a member’s place of business. Thus began the practice of holding weekly meetings at restaurants and hotels.

Very early in the Rotary movement it was decided that business was to be regarded as a means to serve society. The creed, or motto, “He Profits Most Who Serves His Fellows Best” was adopted but was soon modified to that of, “Service Above Self.” The suggested change was quickly embraced by Rotarians worldwide hence Rotarians throughout the world remain dedicated to serving their community, their nation and the world.

As the Rotary organization, spawned in Chicago in 1905, approaches it’s one hundredth birthday it can boast of having more than 20,000 clubs comprised of almost 1,000,000 men and women worldwide.

One such club is the Rotary Club of Hillsborough which was founded in 1955, just 50 years after the inception of Rotary. The Rotary Club of Hillsborough continues to serve the community, county, and world by providing support for such programs as scholarships, the Special Olympics, Midland school, the Memorial Day community Picnic, and emergency and disaster relief.

Rebenack Settles Hip Fracture Litigation for $125,000

June 9th, 2010

RAM Law’s 84 year old client, a resident of Colts Neck, was injured during her daily neighborhood walking routine. As she approached the house of another Colts Neck resident, the homeowner’s Daschund entered the street and started barking at the client. The dog startled the client causing her to fall to the street resulting in a hip fracture and shoulder injury. An orthopedic surgeon used medical hardware to stabilize the hip fracture. The injury required an inpatient stay at the hospital and subsequent rehabilitation center. The dog owner’s insurance company failed to make a voluntary settlement offer. Instead, the insurance company blamed the client for her fall. They also suggested that she may have suffered a stroke based upon the initial medical records. As a result, RAM Law filed a lawsuit. After taking depositions of the dog owners, RAM Law established that the dog had a history of getting out of the backyard fence and a propensity to bark at strangers. Not long after the depositions, the insurance company agreed to pay $125,000 to avoid trial.

Rebenack Settles Ankle Fracture Litigation For $135,000

June 9th, 2010

RAM Law’s client, a resident of Winfield Park, slipped off an uneven step resulting in a bimalleolar ankle fracture of her ankle. An orthopedic surgeon used medical hardware to screw the fractured bones in place to allow healing. The client subsequently developed an infection which required the surgeon to remove some of the hardware. RAM Law submitted a claim against the Winfield Mutual Housing Corporation for the injuries. Unfortunately, the Housing Corporation pointed the finger at other parties and refused to make a voluntary settlement offer. As a result, RAM Law filed a lawsuit. After almost two years of litigation, including a deposition of the Mayor of Winfield, the matter settled as a jury was about to enter the courtroom. Despite its failure to offer any money prior to litigation, the Housing Corporation paid the majoity of the $135,000 settlement.

Rebenack Settles Wrist Fracture Litigation for $164,000

March 25th, 2010

RAM Law’s client, a teacher of deaf 1st graders, was injured in a car accident on Route 195 during a snow storm. A vehicle heading in the opposite direction lost control, crossed over the grass median and struck the client’s car. Her car was then pushed backward into a third car. The client was taken to the ER and diagnosed with a fracture of the left distal radius. She was treated conservatively with a cast. However, the wrist injury affected the client’s ability to perform sign language. During the claims stage, the insurance company offered a maximum settlement offer of $5,000. RAM Law then filed a lawsuit against the two other drivers. After about one year of aggressive litigation, the lawsuit settled for $94,000 prior to trial. A claim for underinsured motorist benefits (UIM) was then filed against Farm Family which ultimately settled for an additional $70,000. Thus, the RAM Law client otained a total recovery of $164,000 despite the pre-lawsuit offer of $5,000.
